CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

The 2011 SDi EuroConFab is a meeting place for kindred spirits. The purpose is to create an internationally shared field of best practices of emergence and evolutionary change. So we invite you to exchange your experience, quests and questions and co-create with other participants.

If you wish to share in a session, we request you to send us a short description of your subject as soon as possible. Please include the questions you would like to inquire into. You can do so by sending an e-mail to euroconfab@humanemergence.nl. We will let you know on short notice whether, how and where it fits in the program. NB: we welcome all kinds of contributions, also those that address a totally different topic.

EMERGING TOPICS AT EUROCONFAB 2011

Vital Cities – Vital Signs Monitoring
Sustainable development of cities and regions dependend on the vitalization of value Memes. Keeping track of the dynamics of vMeme and life conditions is crucial. Integral Vital Signs Monitoring and subsequent development of interventions are necessary. How can we further develop our knowledge and experience building on our inquiries at the former EuroConFabs and our experiences in practice? What methods for monitoring do we employ? What do we measure? At what scale? In what contexts? How can the build up of a VSM system be part of the vitalization of the cityand region itself? The City of Almere will serve as a living laboratory to inquire into this emerging theme. Marilyn Hamilton, author of Integral Cities, will offer her latest insights on pro-active Vital Signs Monitoring. Morel Fourman has challenging questions from practice around the role of Vital Signs in building shared understanding, collaboration and implementing transition. Please let us know what experiences you can share.

Meshworking™
Meshworking is increasing momentum as a new way to generate healthy and comprehensive solutions for complex issues. At the EuroConFab 2008 one of the questions we left with was: “What does it really require of the Meshweaver to build an effective Meshwork?”. In March 2010 an international group of practioners came together in the Netherlands for a four day inquiry to gain a greater understanding what Meshworking really is and how Meshweavers integrate, align and synergize resources, people and motives. In this EuroConFab we will build further on creating our body of knowledge together. It is the step beyond and including Networking and Communities of Practices. What does that mean? What have Meshweavers learnt in practice? What needs to be addressed in a curriculum to expand the Meshwork practice into a profession with strategic impact and build a Community of Meshweave practioners?, share Including the latest experience with Meshworkingin Mexico at the Cancun Climate summit COP 16. Please offer your own learnings and let us know!

The promise of Turquoise
The Turquoise vMeme, because of its all encompassing Big Mind / Big Heart nature, seems so promising and needed in these turbulent years. Clarity of mind, and at the same time compassionate at the deepest level. It is longed for, yet what does it demand from the individual and the collective? What is the essence of the Turquoise vMeme? What examples do we see, experience? What does it imply for our own development? For the way we organise ourselves? For the interventions and engagements we design? At the EuroConFab, CHE Netherlands will share the latest of its Turqoise Research Project, an ongoing endeavour to explore the confines of our individual and collective evolution.

City of Almere case study
On Thursday April 7th, we offer the possibility to engage in a review of the City of Almere cases. Small review teams of ConFab participants will reflect on real challenges of specific stakeholders, who look forward to our feedback from an integral, evolutionary SDi perspective. The output of the teams will be input for the EuroConFab. One of the cases has been confirmed: how can the BuitenhoutCollege (VMBO level, local highschool for vocational training) and the multi ethnic, surrounding district of Almere Buiten inspire each others development? The other cases will likely involve citizen participation in neighbourhood development in Almere Haven, the future search of a horticultural glasshouse district in economic trouble in Almere Buiten Vaart, and the reorganization of health services in Almere. The cases are prepared in collaboration with the Chair of ‘eco-effective entrepreneurship in urban environments’ of the CAH Almere University of Applied Sciences. www.cahalmere.nl

CHE Synnervate is working together with LOC (www.loc.nl) on co-creating their organisation that is ready for the future. Or even more so, that is ready to contribute to co-creating the future of the health care system in The Netherlands.

The core activity of LOC is to support the co-decision making processes and structures in health care institutes in the country. They do so by supporting the patient/client councils in the health organisations. The support provided is very diverse: varying from lobbying in the political arena, but also with insurance companies en health care suppliers, to training courses, consultancy and expertise and knowledge sharing, as well as providing a helpdesk function and thematic conferences and so forth.

Approximately five years ago LOC discovered that a majority of their clients (the councils) as well as their employees weren’t satisfied with the LOC organisation and its services. On top of that, a merger with another alike organisation caused the necessary turmoil amongst employees (and volunteers).

These events marked the starting point for an intense and complex period of transition. The director of LOC, Yvonne van Gilse, developed in conversation with her staff a vision on the future of health care, titled Valuable Health Care (in Dutch: Waarde-volle Zorg). Essentially, this vision aims at focussing on care rather than cure. And it includes a value-driven vision on society, which is exciting because it makes evident that there are more values at stake in health care, rather than solely the value of money. ‘A valuable society deserves valuable health care’ (Dutch: “Een waarde-volle samenleving verdient waarde-volle gezondheidszorg”). LOC recognises that in order to contribute to the emergence of valuable health care, their own organisation needs to be built on the principles of valuable work (Waarde-vol Werken).

CHE Synnervate contributes in quite some different ways to this process of transition to Waarde-vol Werken. Many staff members of LOC have participated in our Spiral Dynamics Integral (SDi) training programme. SDi is the foremost mental model that informs the transformation process at LOC. And there is a team of three synnervators that is involved in different ways. We co-design and facilitate study days for the LOC staff to explore their next steps in the implementation of the new organisational design, we support the CultureSCAN research in LOC to monitor the developmental progress. We advise on possible approaches to involve LOC’s volunteer structures (“Waarde-vol Vrijwilligerswerk”). And we are partners in a funded project with LOC, which is one of the prototypes of what valuable health care might become.

What we as synnervators and CHE Synnervate appreciate about our involvement with LOC is their true and authentic decision to engage with this process of transition on the principles of co-creation. We don’t consider or feel ourselves to be simply ‘hired external consultants’, we are partners in the process and learning and discovering as well, and contributing our unique piece, just like everyone else. And we are very much inspired by the integral approach that the leadership of LOC is taking. They include the whole range from individual to collective concerns, intentions, value systems and needs, as well as skills, knowledge, competencies, structures, processes and policies. Everything can be on the table for exploration in conversation. Sometimes painful, sometimes joyful. We are glad to be partners in this process, we thank LOC for their invitation and we hope that their vision on health care with manifest. We will contribute what we can in pursuing so.
